The National Museum of the American Indian is the latest museum to be added to the Smithsonian Institution museums on the Mall in Washington, DC.
The Window on Collections exhibits feature several thousand objects in display cases located throughout the Museum. The objects are organized into simple categories: Animals, Dolls, Qeros & Containers, Beads, Peace Medals and Points. None of the objects have interpretive information in the displays.
Magian created a series of touchscreen programs using the Magian MMaP System to provide the interpretive information. Magian also created a public website that displays the same information.
The Magian MMaP System provides the database for managing the content and also dynamically and simultaneously publishes the touchscreen programs at high resolution and for the website at low resolution. Images, texts, videos and QTVR can be assigned to each object.
The interpretive content can be changed and updated by Museum staff as objects are added or changed from display or if new information comes to light. In this way MMaPS facilitates the flexible display of these study collections.
