The National Wool Museum
The Making of an Industry

The National Wool Museum in Geelong, Australia opened in 1988. The museum tells the story of the wool trade and industry in Australia and the impact that it had on the culture and development of the emerging British colony. In the nineteenth century much of Australia's wool was exported from the Port of Geelong in the State of Victoria.

All of the programs were originally installed with and controlled by the hardware version of Magian’s DiAC System.

A unique feature of the video programs at the time of initial installation, was the use of animated computer

graphics to explain the workings of the various machinery used to process wool.

We originally created, produced and installed:

  • soundscapes
  • oral history audio programs
  • interactive laser disk video programs
  • non-interactive laser video disk programs
  • multi-projector 35mm slide programs

Magian was recently asked to refurbish all the laser disk programs to digital video.  The Museum requested that the original program designs and content should not be changed.
