Anderson-Abruzzo Albuquerque
International Balloon Museum

Magian Design Studio was responsible for the design and production of all media at the new purpose built Anderson-Abruzzo Albuquerque International Balloon Museum in Albuquerque, New Mexico.  The Museum has a grand-stand view of the site for the annual Balloon Fiesta with its mass ascensions and balloon glows. New Mexico is home to some of modern ballooning's most remarkable stories. The Museum is named for two of Albuquerque's favorite sons, Maxie Anderson and Ben Abruzzo who made ballooning history in 1978 when, with Larry Newman, they succeeded in piloting the first hot air balloon across the Atlantic Ocean.

Magian played a key role in the development of the media, working closely with the museum staff, architect Marc Schiff and exhibit designers C&G Partners.  Magian produced the content for the touchscreen programs and soundscapes throughout the Museum including shooting footage and collecting oral histories from key ballooning heroes. We also designed and specified the technical infrastructure.

Magian’s MMaPS Database and Content Manager was employed to enable Museum staff to update the content into the future.

The soundscapes and audio within all of the programs are controlled using Magian’s DiAC (Digital Interactivity and Control) System.

Magian designed, developed and produced:

  • eleven touchscreen programs
  • a multi-screen video program
  • a touchscreen controlling video projection
  • touchscreens controlling video cameras to provide visitors with views into a gondola exhibit
  • multi-channel audio soundscapes
